Step by step guide

The steps below will show how to create a EXAScaler Cloud Cluster on Google Cloud platform.

You will need a Google account. Sign in.

Login to your account and go to the Google Cloud Marketplace.

In the search box that appears, type "EXAScaler Cloud" and hit return. For some reason the completions that start to show up do not work as expected:

And click "LAUNCH" button:

EXAScaler Cloud environment can be deployed as a standard Google Cloud application. And the installation wizard is used to deploy it. Installation wizard contains few configuration steps:

Basic step:

  • Deployment name - unique name of your choice.
  • Zone -  determines what computing resources are available and where your data is stored and used. Learn more.

Step 1:

  • Network and Subnetwork - choose an existing network and subnetwork that EXAScaler Cloud environment will be deployed.
  • External IP addresses can be assigned either to all servers or management server + NAT, to allow all servers send outbound packets to the Internet and receive response packets.

Step 2:

  • Filesystem name that will be mounted from clients as a distributed network resource.

Step 3:

  • Configuration Profile we can choose predefined configuration profile or create a custom EXAScaler Cloud configuration. We provides two predefined profiles:
    - Small profile that will configure Google Cloud resources to deliver 10TB capacity.
    - Medium profile that will configure Google Cloud resources to deliver 50TB capacity.
    - Custom profile that allows us to deploy any environment according to our requirements.

DDN EXAScaler Cloud pricing is based on the number of CPU cores configured to meet the defined performance requirements. And DDN Premium Support is recommended for Custom profile.

Step 4:

  • Firewall options. By default SSH and HTTP incoming traffic from outside a network is allowed.
  • Source IP ranges for SSH and HTTP incoming traffic.

Optional step for Custom Configuration profile:

  • Management server options: machine type, type and size for for management target device.
  • Metadata server options: machine type, type and size for for metadata target device.
  • Object Storage server options: machine type and number of servers, type and size for for object storage target device.

Step 5:

  • Number of storage clients.
  • Storage client machine type.

And we can press a "Deploy" button and send the selected configuration for deployment.

Next you will see the dashboard notification with "EXAScaler Cloud is being deployed":

Once the status changes to "EXAScaler Cloud has been deployed", the deployment output will be available:

  • Filesystem name.
  • Client mount command to mount EXAScaler distributed file system. All storage clients created in this deployment should mount this filesystem.
  • Web Console - URL to view the grid report.
  • SSH console - remote access to the management server.
  • Suggested next steps to install third-party clients.

Click on the "Visit the Console" button to open EXAScaler Web Console:

Click on the "SSH" button to open a console session to the management server:
